Hayden ROADS: When work hurts business

| August 21, 2015 9:00 PM

From August 3 through August 14, the city road department closed off 4th Street from Reid to Miller to replace the bricks in the street that were recently installed. The recent road construction was extremely detrimental to the local businesses between Reid and Miller Streets.

The timing of this construction was literally a road block in the height of the summer season. This is when local businesses make their money for the winter and count on tourists and locals. We were not given any notice or consideration as to how this would affect our businesses.

Understanding the roadwork needed to be done, why not do it in September after kids go back to school, tourists have gone home, and locals are back to a regular schedule? This is a slap in the face to small business, which also employs local people.

Not only did this hurt Kelly’s, Capone’s, and all the quaint shops on 4th Street, it just shows the absolute disregard for local businesses by the City of Coeur d’Alene. So let this be a warning to all local businesses to beware of the City Council because next time this lack of consideration may be at your doorstep.

Fourth Street is now open and we are looking forward to seeing you.
