SCHOOLS: Reduce districts, save money

| August 2, 2015 9:00 PM

Idaho has 44 counties but 115 public school districts in a state with a population just over 1.5 million. There should be only one school district per county. I imagine that may create better distribution of state school taxes going to teachers and to improve school standards all around.

Why should Idaho be so low in many student standards? Use school taxes to raise standards — not so much money going to bloated bureaucracies.

I understand Idaho as well as several other states are partially utilizing four days per week schedules. Hopefully, that will lower taxes and improve educational standards.

I like the idea of boot camps, such as the state utilizes in Pierce, Idaho. Some students need those types of disciplines and directions to make it in life’s complexities. Hopefully Idaho education leaders will consider expanding these boot camp education environments to students who need such environments to succeed in life.

By totally eliminating 71 public school districts and then having 44, many millions of tax dollars could be saved and tax monies could be directed to more appropriate school budgets and to teachers and students.
