4/28: Honor fallen laborers

| April 22, 2015 9:00 PM

The 28th of April has been designated as workers Memorial Day nationwide, and at 6 p.m. that evening at the Human Rights Center next to Coeur d’Alene City Park, the Northern Idaho Central Labor Council will again hold a memorial service for all workers killed on the job. We had 14 workers and three military personnel who died while they were on the job.

Last year after the ceremony I wrote a letter explaining about the service and informing everyone that they should attend, as we do not distinguish between a Union Brother and Sister, but we mourn all brothers and sisters of Labor, who were killed on the job.

Again this year I invite the general public to attend the ceremony at the Human Rights Center. We hope to have a permanent area dedicated to those who have fallen while working, across the street in the new Memorial Park.

So like the activist Mother Jones who has often been quoted as saying “Mourn the dead but fight like hell for the living,” we would really like it if we had to move the ceremony outside of the building because there were too many people in attendance.

So please come join us on April 28 at 6 p.m., at the Human Rights Center in Coeur d’Alene.
