OVERPASS: Move buildings to Farragut
Regarding “In the path of the overpass” published April 4:
The city of Post Falls is constructing an eighth overpass at Greensferry Avenue between Highway 41 and Beck Road. That will give Post Falls eight crossings over I-90 in 6.1 miles.
Beck Road at 0.0 miles
Pleasant View at 9 miles
McGuire Road at 2.0 miles
Spokane Street at 3.5 miles
Idaho Street at 4.1 miles
Seltice Road at 4.4 miles
Greensferry Road at 5.1 miles
Highway 41 at 6.1 miles
And then they are wondering what to do with the Richards home that was a “former medical building” at the Naval Air Station at Farragut State Park, where more than 500,000 sailors were stationed and trained near Athol during World War II.
The Post Falls URA executive director said at a Post Falls meeting that “only Post Falls taxpayers” would be footing the entire cost of the overpass and that Coeur d’Alene and Kootenai County residents outside of the Post Falls boundary would not be paying on this $15,000,000-plus project. That’s the good news.
I feel, as several others do, (especially veterans) that the Richards home should be moved back to Farragut State Park (on the URA dollars) where it originally came from for all the veterans who lived and trained there during World War II. Preserve the medical building and move it back to Farragut State Park for its historical value for the citizens of Kootenai County and the State of Idaho.
Stand up for all the veterans of Idaho.
