ANNIVERSARIES
John and Claire Davis
70th Anniversary
John and Claire were married April 23, 1945, in Oakland, Calif. John was in the Navy during World War ll. After the war, the couple moved to Pleasant Hill, Calif., then Paradise, Calif., where John owned a Shell Oil Co. gas station. Claire was a secretary and homemaker. John retired in 1988. In 2001, they moved to Rathdrum.
Since retirement, they enjoy camping and many road trips. They are members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Rathdrum.
They have five children, John (Linda) Davis of Kennewick, Wash., Robert (Cindy) Davis of South Lake Tahoe, Mark (Jackie) of Rathdrum, Bonnie (Mark) Elliott of Stephensville, Mont., and Tom (Laurie) Davis of Mesa, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchlidren.
David and Mavis Waarvik
50th Anniversary
David Jon and Mavis Ann Victoria (Markworth) Waarvik, of Rathdrum, will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on April 17, 2015.
David was an Alaska State Trooper and gunsmith before retiring. Mavis was a planner for state of Alaska before her retirement.
Their children are Janet Morrow of Libby, Mont., and Sonja Talley of Levittown, Pa. They have two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The couple will celebrate on Saturday, July 4, 2015, in City Park in Elroy, Wis., with family and friends. Their daughters will be hosting the celebration.

Monaghan-Blakeman
Dave and Mary Monaghan of Colfax, Wash., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jacqueline Marie Monaghan to Justin DeVere Blakeman both of Coeur d'Alene, son of Harry and Toni George of Medicine Bow, Wyo.
Jacqueline graduated from Lake City High School in 2001, Western Washington University in 2005, North Idaho College in 2010 and Boise State University in 2012. She works as a Registered Nurse.
Justin graduated from Bow Basin High School in 1989, North Idaho College in 2007 and Western Governor's University in 2014. He works as a flight registered nurse.
The couple will be united in marriage on Saturday, July 4, 2015, in Hayden.
Sverdsten-Weingart
Brigitte Brazda of Hayden and David Sverdsten of Cataldo are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Stefanie Sverdsten to Nicholas Weingart, both of Cataldo, son of David and Janet Weingart of Cataldo.
Stefanie is a 2001 graduate of Lake City High School. She is employed by Kootenai Health.
Nicholas is graduated from Kellogg High School in 2007 and Wyotech in 2008. He is employed as an auto body technician at Dave Smith Motors.
The couple will be united in marriage at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Old River Road in Kingston.
Roth-Groene
Keith Roth and Gretchen Roth are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Cassie Marie Roth to Jesse Steven Groene, son of Steve Groene and Brenda K. Mathews.
Cassie is employed at Texas Roadhouse. Jesse works as a driller for National EWP.
The couple will be united in marriage on July 25, 2015, in Athol.
BIRTHS
Landen James Schlotthauer was born at 11:44 a.m. on April 7, 2015, Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene to Jennifer and Reid Schlotthauer of Blanchard. He weighed 9 pounds 7 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Brad and Nita Allard of Sagle. Paternal grandparents are Dave and Robin Schlotthauer of Blanchard.
Faith Madilynn Baxter was born at 8:27 p.m. March 13, 2015, to Justine and Tyler Baxter of Liberty Lake, Wash. She weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces and was 21 inches long. Maternal grandmother is Cinde Matthew of Coeur d'Alene. Paternal grandparents are Dave Baxter of Coeur d'Alene, and Frank and Terri Rhuby of Coeur d'Alene.
MILITARY
Post Falls High School graduate S. Thatcher Givens was awarded the distinguished appointment into the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., for the class of 2019.
The U.S. Naval Academy is a four-year federal service academy which was established in 1845 under Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft. It is the second-oldest of the United States' five service academies and educates officers for commissioning primarily into the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. The U.S. Naval Academy is widely regarded as one of the finest undergraduate academic institutions in the world and consistently ranked in the top 20 of America's colleges and universities.
The road to appointment and acceptance into the Naval Academy was grueling and lengthy. In addition to the typical detailed college application requirements, Givens had to seek out and earn at least one nomination from an official source. He received two congressional nominations, one from Senator Mike Crapo and the other from Congressman Raul Labrador. In addition he received a Presidential nomination. Prior to his nominations, Givens secured various letters of recommendations, took physical fitness tests, and proved his strong leadership skills and equally strong moral compass.
Given's academic, athletic and community service achievements include Idaho Top Scholar, Post Falls High School Academic Letter (4 years), AP and Honors courses, Academic Scholarship at the University of Washington, Dean's list as a freshman at the University of Washington, PFHS varsity baseball, Spokane Rep AA hockey goaltender, University of Washington hockey goaltender, Lois Ham Goaltender of the Year Award, black belt in Tang So Do Karate, American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year Award, served several hours as a volunteer intern at the Spokane Veterans Hospital Emergency Department, and several other community and humanitarian volunteer roles.
