PROSECUTOR: A big case awaits
I’m so happy to see the County Prosecutor has really got aggressive with the cases regarding “Falcon Death” (Press March 11) and “Wolf Shooter” (Press March 15) and slapped the “CoiNuts Owner” on the wrist (Press March 20), probably so he could keep his 99.99 percent conviction rate.
Now, maybe, he has the time to address the Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive accident of more than a year ago, the one he promised a decision on by the end of February. That case only involved two terrible traffic accidents, a car theft, a possible attempted kidnap and a traffic accident that seriously injured an innocent citizen. I guess it’s just a matter of priorities, OR who you are or who you know? Again, if memory serves me correct, we were supposed to get a “decision” on this case by the end of February (Press Jan. 23).
I’m afraid the “sleep driving” defense may have scared off our County Prosecutor. The County Prosecutor needs to pull up his big boy pants and try the case. I have faith in a jury of Idahoans to listen to all the facts and make a righteous decision (this isn’t Hollyweird or San Francisco). I’m also going to take The Press on for their haphazard coverage of this matter. As the Fourth Estate, you, the media, are responsible for keeping the government entities accountable to the people (example: Watergate, just to mention one heroic press endeavor). Where have you been on this issue? We get a ton of local “fluff’ coverage, a whole lot of stuff on Arfee, ad nauseum, wolf killers, falcon killers, etc. You have an issue here that smacks of suspicion (possibly even corruption of an elected official) and you haven’t done much of anything. You also need to pull up your big boy pants and do your job. Mr. Cousins (Press writer), this might be an opportunity to really make a name for yourself. Dan Rather, Bob Woodward, etc., would be ashamed.
