Yellowstone firewood permits available this year

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) - Anyone wanting a piece of Yellowstone National Park, now's your chance.

The National Park Service will be accepting public requests for firewood collection permits to be issued this year.

Excess firewood is periodically available in Yellowstone for a variety of reasons, including fire fuel mitigation, wind events, construction projects or hazard tree removal.

Individuals interested in applying for a permit are asked to phone (307) 344-2116 now through next Sunday. They are instructed to leave their name and daytime telephone number.

After Sunday, names will only be accepted Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling (307) 344-2107.

Permits will be issued in the order phone calls are received.

Successful applicants will be contacted as wood becomes available throughout the year.

The firewood permits cost $25.
