PROJECT: Preserve property rights

| April 12, 2015 9:00 PM

This letter is in response to Ronnie Warmington’s “Opinion” dated March 27. I was at the same meeting.

The presenters did not “bad mouth” the builder/developer nor did they question the quality of the builder’s houses. They did question the quantity of said houses on the area in question.

Mr. Dennis Swartout, of Spokane, is requesting a rezoning of this property to allow three houses per acre. Most of the individuals who attended the hearing want to keep the present zoning — one house on five acres.

Mr. Swartout must be very confident that his rezoning request will pass because (according to rumor) he has already placed a sewer pipe under U.S. 95 and under the railroad tracks on the west side of the highway. The pipe would connect his proposed housing development with a proposed sewage and wastewater treatment facility. Neither proposal has been approved — as far as “we the people” know. (Admittedly, this move would save U.S. 95 from further disruption.)

Hopefully, our commissioners will not be swayed by a sewer pipe. After all, they ran on a promise of support for “private property rights.”
