PREP ROUNDUP: Mallet drives Timberlake past Lakeland
• SOFTBALL
RATHDRUM — Jacquelyn Mallet had four hits, scored two runs and stole three bases as the Timberlake beat the Lakeland Hawks 11-7 in eight innings of a nonleague game on Thursday at Lakeland High.
“To start off the season 0-5 and then get three wins in a row, it’s really helping to build our confidence,” Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. “We’ve got a couple of tough ones this weekend in Montana, but it’s good to get going in the right direction.”
Katie Malloy had three hits for Timberlake (3-5), which is scheduled to face Libby at 2 p.m. PDT and Frenchtown at 4 on Saturday in Libby.
Emily Vanderhoof, Darby Litzko and Reilly Williams had two hits each for Lakeland (0-7), which travels to Sandpoint for a 4A Inland Empire League doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.

ST. MARIES — Kari Ghramm drove in three runs and the Lumberjacks pushed across the winning run on an illegal pitch, beating the Wildcats in a nonleague game at City Park.
“It’s a little unconventional the way it ended,” St. Maries coach Todd Bitterman said. “We’d just got called for one earlier in the game and it kind of feels like you didn’t earn it. Kellogg’s a good hitting team, but couldn’t string anything along.”
Ghramm hit a 2-run single in the first inning for St. Maries (6-1), which took advantage of 10 walks — after being limited to four hits.
“We went patient with our approach in the final two innings and it worked out for us,” Bitterman said.
St. Maries travels to Grangeville on Saturday to face the Bulldogs at 11:30 a.m. and Nampa Christian at 1 p.m.
Drew Twidt had three hits for Kellogg (1-4), which hosts Bonners Ferry on Tuesday.
