Spokane shuffles roster heading into Week 3
SPOKANE - The Spokane Shock have been assigned quarterback Danny Southwick, a fifth-year veteran of the Arena Football League, the team announced.
Southwick, 6-foot-2, 205 pounds from Occidental (Calif.), played for the Portland Thunder in 2014, where he competed in eight games and completed 165 of 263 pass attempts for 2,040 yards, 38 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
Southwick spent time with the Chicago Rush and Cleveland Gladiators in 2013, the San Jose SaberCats in 2012 and was with Tampa Bay for his rookie season in 2011.
Southwick will be the fifth quarterback assigned to Spokane since the start of the 2015 regular season. Carson Coffman started the season, but suffered an knee injury in Week 1 at Arizona. Backup quarterback Warren Smith suffered a similar injury in the Shock's final training camp scrimmage. Jarrett Brown started for Spokane in a home loss to Philadelphia last Saturday before being replaced by Matt Bassuener.
Smith was activated from the inactive reserve list Tuesday and is expected to play on Thursday at Portland, backing up Southwick. Bassuener was played on reassignment and defensive back Samuel Pope has been placed in the inactive reserve list.
Thursday's kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
