PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Playing with heavy hearts, St. Maries splits CIL matches

ST. MARIES - On an emotional day, the St. Maries Lumberjacks split with Central Idaho League foes Orofino and Grangeville on Saturday.

Kelsey Auer had 29 assists, Kari Ghramm 16 kills, McKenzie Rose seven digs for the Lumberjacks in a 26-24, 25-23, 27-25 win against Orofino to start the day.

"It was a great match all around," St. Maries coach Amy Scheer said. "The girls were strong with talking on the court and playing really, really well. Everything was clicking for us in that match."

Following the match, players left the gym to attend the memorial service of 2014 St. Maries High graduate Brandon Avalos, who passed away after a fall Sept. 18 at Glacier National Park in Montana.

After returning, the Lumberjacks fell 25-20, 25-16, 25-17 to Grangeville.

Auer had 26 assists, Ghramm 11 kills, Catherine Flach six digs and Kendall Brusseau two blocks for St. Maries.

"They came back right after the service and played with what they had left," Scheer said.

St. Maries (7-8, 2-1 CIL) hosts Kellogg on Tuesday.

Cd'A Charter falls to Orofino, Grangeville

ST. MARIES - Anna Verhaeghe had eight kills, five blocks and 25 digs for the Panthers in a 19-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 15-9 Central Idaho League loss to the Maniacs at St. Maries High.

"It was the first time in five years we'd taken a game from Orofino," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Tera Armstrong said. "So we were happy with that."

Soersha Lewis had four aces and Jackie Callahan had 12 assists for Coeur d'Alene Charter (5-8, 0-3 CIL) against Orofino.

Earlier, Verhaeghe had five kills, three blocks and six digs for the Panthers in a 25-19, 25-17, 25-15 loss to Grangeville.

Lewis had two aces and Callahan five assists for Coeur d'Alene Charter (5-7, 0-2) against Grangeville.

Coeur d'Alene Charter hosts St. Maries on Thursday at Holy Family Catholic School.

Genesis Prep d. Christian Heritage

EDWALL, Wash. - The visiting Jaguars rallied to defeat the Patriots in five games, winning the final three games 25-22, 25-29, 15-7 in Mountain Christian League play. Scores of the first two games were unavailable.

Genesis Prep (2-3, 2-3 MCL) hosts Christian Center on Tuesday at Real Life Ministries in Post Falls.
