Showtime forthe Red Hot Mamas

| September 26, 2014 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - If you've ever been inspired by the Red Hot Mamas and laughed as they danced along parade routes with their shopping carts and brought merriment to community events, now is your chance to show them your support.

The one-of-a-kind, musical-comedy performance organization from North Idaho is inviting everyone and their own mamas to come out to the Silver Lake Mall Saturday to cheer on the parade unit as it films routines to send to live coverage producers in New York City. The footage will determine how much screen time the Mamas will receive on national television when the group marches in the 2014 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The more cheering audience members present to make a spectacle for the Mamas, the better. The routines will be 20 minutes long and will be presented at noon, 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the center of the Silver Lake Mall with the main recording event happening during the 1 p.m. show. Performances will include the parade routine and the Herald Square televised routine.

Anyone who wants to join in the fun and be a part of the loud, cheering audience is invited to bring posters and dress in bright clothing and Red Hot Mama logowear, tutus, boas, sparkles and anything glamorous to reflect the Mamas' spirit.

The Mamas were personally invited to perform in the parade by the Macy's Parade creative director Wesley Whatley.

"I love this! Love this," Whatley said in a press release, regarding previous Seattle Seafair Parade TV footage of the Mamas. He added that he can't wait for them to be in the Macy's parade once again.

The Mamas have performed in several events and parades across the nation, from United States Presidential Inauguration parades in 2001 and 2005 in Washington, D.C., to the New Year's Day Celebration in London and Hershey's 100th Anniversary Celebration in Hershey, Pa. The group has appeared on national television and radio broadcasts. The group's mission is "to encourage and motivate women to be all they want to be at all ages, while evidencing humor, hope and fun through uplifting entertainment to change the world."

The Silver Lake Mall is at 200 W. Hanley Ave.
