PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP: Lake City boys blank Lakeland

RATHDRUM - Jack Barrett scored an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute, leading the Lake City Timberwolves past the Lakeland Hawks 1-0 in a nonleague match on Thursday at Rotary Field.

Cade Coffey stopped 12 of 13 shots on goal for Lakeland (2-7), which hosts Coeur d'Alene on Saturday.

"Lake City is a fantastic team and definitely had a lot of chances," Lakeland coach Andrew Craig said. "Cade played a fantastic game for us as well."

Lakeland had a shot late to tie the match, but just missed the post.

Lake City (10-0) resumes 5A Inland Empire League play at Lewiston on Saturday.

SANDPOINT - Devin Kohles and Chase Sanchez scored six minutes apart in the first half, leading the Vikings past the Bulldogs in a nonleague match at Pine Street Field.

Mitchell Kamphaus kept a clean sheet in goal for the Vikings (8-1), who have now shut out the Bulldogs three times this season.

"My boys competed today," Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Lake said. "The first 15 minutes was flat, but I liked how they competed after that."

"Despite the score, I though we played well," Sandpoint coach Adam Tajan said. "It's unfortunate to give up two goals on set pieces, on mistakes. You can't do that against Coeur d'Alene."

Coeur d'Alene visits Lakeland and Sandpoint (4-7) hosts Post Falls on Saturday.

KELLOGG - The visiting Tigers beat the Wildcats in an Intermountain League match at Teeters Field.

Further information was not reported for Timberlake (7-2-1, 5-1), which travels to Coeur d'Alene Charter on Tuesday.

Rachel Beier scored both goals for Kellogg (0-10, 0-7 IML), which hosts Riverside on Saturday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Brooklyn Cunningham's second-half goal proved to be the equalizer as the host Panthers tied the Hawks in nonleague play at Community United Methodist Field.

Harley Hendry scored late in the first half for Lakeland (4-4-2).

"We did not start well and that is solely on me," Charter coach Dave Baxter said. "Lakeland came out fast, dominated us and eventually (Thea) Marshall found Hendry in a seam and she buried it. Center backs Natalie Goetz, Maya Burgess-Harrison and goal keeper Jackie Jensen came up huge to give us a chance to earn the draw."

Coeur d'Alene Charter (6-1-1) travels to Freeman on Saturday. Lakeland plays host to Post Falls on Tuesday.
