PREP GIRLS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Sandpoint settles for tie

| September 21, 2014 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT - Freshman Hadley Marshall scored her first varsity goal to stake Sandpoint to an early lead, but Moscow rallied for the late equalizer, earning a 1-1 tie in 4A Inland Empire League girls soccer on Saturday at Pine Street Field.

Marshall stole a pass, made a quick move up the line and drilled the ball past the keeper in the 31st minute.

"Hadley had the most composure on the field. She took a touch, kept her head up and went far post," described Sandpoint head coach Conor Baranski. "Full credit to her as a freshman."

The Bears, who featured plus speed in their attack, scored in the 66th minute to tie the game. Moscow thought it had a goal in the first half, after Sandpoint goalie Paige Dumars collided with another player, the Bears kicked a ball that appeared to bounce over the goal line. Play continued before the ref finally stopped the action after Dumars didn't get up.

"On the one hand, we're down two starters, but at the same time we need to win this game," said Baranski of the importance of league results. "I question some of the will to win on our team."
