NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinal men settle for first tie of season

| September 21, 2014 9:00 PM

VANCOUVER, Wash. - The North Idaho Cardinals and Clark College Penguins - two of three unbeaten men's soccer teams in the Northwest Athletic Conference entering play on Saturday - played to a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon.

Adam Talley scored in the 15th minute and former Lake City High standout Alec Johnson scored on a 25-yard free kick to give NIC a 2-0 lead late in the first half, but a goal by Clark's Anthony Ojeda in the 86th minute evened the score.

"We had some good chances that we didn't put away," NIC coach Ken Thompson said. "When you're playing a team like Clark, they were able to uncover a few things that we weren't doing right. If we weren't getting back, they created something out of it. They didn't have the most speed that we've played, but the decision making was some of the best we've seen so far."

NIC (7-0-1, 4-0-1 NWAC) travels to Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Wash., next Saturday.

Clark is 6-0-3, 3-0-3.

VANCOUVER, Wash. - Elly Priddy took a pass to the far post and scored in the 69th minute for the Cardinals, who played to a draw with the Penguins in a Northwest Athletic Conference match.

"Both teams looked a little tired after the games they played yesterday (Friday) and there wasn't a lot of rhythm to the game," NIC coach Dan Hogan said. "Both goalkeepers played well, with each making a couple of good saves."

NIC (3-0-5, 2-0-5 NWAC) remains in fourth place in the East Division, and hosts Yakima Valley on Wednesday.

Clark is 2-4-3, 1-3-3.
