Laura Jean Scheels, 71

Laura Jean Scheels, 71, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on Monday, Sept. 15, 2014.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., Laura was the daughter of Albert Joseph Romer and Kathleen Jean McCullough Romer of Upper Saddle River, N.J. Laura was a graduate of nursing school and worked many years at Ramapo Manor Nursing Home and later retired her career while living on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Laura had a love of music, reading and was a gifted artist. She helped many people during her lifetime and will always be remembered for her generosity to those in need.

She was preceded in death by her brother, James Romer and sister, Patricia Romer.

Laura was the loving mother of Dawn Kelly Pitts (William) of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Sean D. Milner of Onancock, Va., Tracee Katherine Sherwood (Joseph) of Locustville, Va., and Kevin J. Scheels (Deborah) of Jacksonville, Fla., 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sisters Kathleen Graf (Fred) and Sharon McGraw, brother Daniel Romer, and many nieces and nephews.

Laura will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her and loved her.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
