Timberlake wins on Bentley's go-ahead goal

SPOKANE - Cody Bentley scored his first career go-ahead goal by putting away a one-on-one breakaway from nearly 15 yards away, in the Timberlake Tigers' 4-3 nonleague win over the St. George's Dragons on Friday.

The sophomore scored his 13th of the season.

Thomas Houck had a goal and an assist.

"We really controlled this game," Timberlake coach Bert Bentley said. "Unfortunately, with the shots we put on goal, we didn't have nearly as many goals. We had a lot of missed opportunities. They (St. George's) passed the ball around on us. It was a crucial, late goal to put us back on top."

Timberlake (3-2-1) plays today at St. Maries.

COLVILLE, Wash. - In the penalty kick shootout, Tigers goalkeeper Courtney Sutton made three big saves and freshman Shelby Starr scored the clinching goal in the round, won 3-1 by Timberlake, in its nonleague win.

Carleen Simpson and Kyler Trumble also scored in the shootout.

"They all came up big," Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. "So did our goalkeeper. All you want to get is two saves, she came up three saves, that was huge."

Colville got on the scoreboard first in the 23rd minute, as Danni Rogne scored on a penalty kick.

"The referee asked, 'How do you want to play this if it ends up in a tie?," Michael said. "I told the refs if we have the option, let's do a PK shootout."

Timberlake hosts Priest River on Thursday.
