PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Vikings nearly knock off Lewiston

LEWISTON - The Coeur d'Alene Vikings pushed the two-time defending state 5A champion Lewiston Bengals to the limit Tuesday night, battling back from a 2-0 deficit before falling 25-17, 27-25, 22-25, 20-25, 15-13 in 5A Inland Empire League play at Booth Hall.

Megan Ramseyer had 22 kills, 26 assists, 18 digs and four aces for Coeur d'Alene (9-2, 1-1 5A IEL). Missy Huddleston had 21 kills and 14 digs, Ali Williams six kills, 18 assists and four aces, Sydney Bybee five kills, Maura Donovan seven digs.

"It's always tough to play down in Lewiston," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. "And it a tight match, when key calls don't go your way it makes the loss tougher. But we made quite a jump in our level of play tonight. We competed hard and I'm proud of these girls."

Emilee Schlader had 27 kills for Lewiston (15-0, 2-0 5A IEL).

Coeur d'Alene plays host to Lake City on Thursday.

Post Falls

SANDPOINT - Allison Munday had six kills and Lydea Schneider had 10 assists for the Trojans in a 25-15, 25-17, 25-14 nonleague loss to the Bulldogs at Les Rogers Court.

Brooke Bowers had eight digs and Brittany Deitz three blocks for Post Falls (7-7), which travels to Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.

"We passed, served and received pretty well," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "We just had some unforced errors."

Taylor Martin and Amy Shepard had 10 kills and Darby Scrimsher had 30 assists for Sandpoint (9-6), which hosts Lakeland on Thursday.

Lake City wins

RATHDRUM - Lake City beat Lakeland 25-4, 25-12, 25-7 and Kellogg 25-17, 25-11, 25-18 in a tri-match at Lakeland.

Against Lakeland, CC Cates had 13 assists, nine digs and four aces for Lake City. Macy DuCoeur had 11 kills, Nina Carlson three blocks.

Against Kellogg, Natalie Taylor had 15 kills for Lake City, Brittany Gay 13 assists, Alisa Ricciardi six digs, Carlson two blocks.

Later, Kaidan Kelsey had 14 kills and two blocks, Haley Rotchford 12 kills for Lakeland in a 29-27, 25-20, 18-25, 19-25, 15-13 nonleague win against the Wildcats at Hawk Court.

Hailey Tierney had 23 digs for Lakeland (3-8), which travels to Sandpoint on Thursday.

Andee Wendt had 12 kills, Jasmine James 10 kills, Marley Chambers 27 assists and Janet Lo 27 17 for Kellogg (4-5), which travels to Timberlake on Thursday.

Lake City travels to Coeur d'Alene on Thursday.

MOSCOW - Matraca Rocheleau had six assists for the Tigers, who lost to the Bears 25-9, 25-7, 25-14 in a nonleague match at Bear Den.

Jamie Lickfold had four kills, Kiara Hauck and Courtney Eaton six digs each for Timberlake (3-7), which hosts Kellogg on Thursday.

ST. MARIES - Kelsey Auer had 32 assists for the Lumberjacks in a 25-13, 25-17, 25-16 win against the shorthanded Panthers in the Central Idaho League opener for both schools.

"The girls played well together and accomplished quite a few goals set for ourselves tonight," St. Maries coach Amy Scheer said. "We didn't have many serving errors and played as one. It was fun to watch."

Kari Ghramm had 13 kills, Kristin Womack 10 kills, Catherine Flach eight digs for St. Maries (5-7), which hosts Lakeside on Thursday.

"They're a hard-hitting team," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Tera Armstrong said of St. Maries. "Our girls fought hard the whole time."

Charter lost setter Jackie Callahan, who finished with five assists, due to illness early in the second game. Libero Maddi Aitana was out most of the match due to a leg injury.

Kallie Garn had five kills for Coeur d'Alene Charter (3-2). Anna Verhaeghe had six blocks and three aces. Stephanie Kociela had 10 digs.

Coeur d'Alene Charter (3-2) hosts Kootenai on Thursday at Holy Family Catholic School.

HARRISON FLATS - The visiting Miners beat the Warriors 25-6, 25-22, 18-25, 20-25, 15-13 in a nonleague match.

Grace McInturff had 13 kills and 14 blocks, Lacy Goodson had 14 digs, three kills and one block and Madison Napierala had 13 assists for Kootenai (1-5), which faces Coeur d'Alene Charter at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d'Alene on Thursday.

"The first game, it was very sad and I thought it was going to be a long night," Kootenai coach Mary Gentry said. "To come back from losing the first game 25-6, the girls really proved some things. They proved they can adjust and do some good things and did a good job of displaying that tonight."

No stats were available for Wallace (3-2), which hosts Mullan on Thursday.
