PREP FOOTBALL: Lakeland routs East Valley

| September 13, 2014 10:00 PM

SPOKANE VALLEY — Chris Washburn got the ball rolling with two big runs in the second quarter for the Lakeland Hawks on Friday, getting the momentum started in a 41-10 nonleague rout of the East Valley Knights.

“Our kids are doing a good job and they’re prparing well,” Lakeland coach Tim Kiefer said. “I think we came out flat. East Valley gave us an even (defensive) front. But once we got it rolling, we got a couple of big plays in the second quarter. Chris Washburn had a couple of big runs to get us going, Ty (Derrick) had a big run right after that. We had to shake the cobwebs off. Our defense really came to play, they were hitting hard and they did a great job.”

The Hawks (3-0) host Cheney this Friday.
