Alfred J. Hedal, 91

| September 11, 2014 11:02 AM

Alfred J. Hedal, originally of Coeur d’Alene, passed away peacefully on August 5th, 2014, from natural causes at the Sweetwood retirement community in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Al was born on January 7, 1923, the only child of Alfred and Ada Hedal.  He grew up in Coeur d’Alene and attended the University of Idaho before joining the Navy during World War II.   After the war, he graduated from Columbia University in New York City and earned a law degree from New York University.  He married Emily Ann Feld of Memphis, Tennessee in 1948.  They lived in Montclair, New Jersey and raised a family while he pursued a successful career as a corporate lawyer.  After his retirement, he and Emily moved to Ludlow, Vermont.

Al was the quintessential renaissance man.  He was an accomplished classical violinist, a voracious reader and a lover of music, the arts, hiking, fly fishing and everything that nature has to offer, among other things.  We will forever miss his wry sense of humor, quick mind and love of a good story.   He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, his daughters Jane Hedal-Siegel and Laura Hedal Plaze, his son Joseph A. Hedal, his four grand children and countless memories.
