| September 10, 2014 9:00 PM

James D. Fisher, 84, passed away Sept. 8, 2014, after a year long battle with cancer.

Jim was born Oct. 23, 1929, to William Fisher and Helen Shramek Fisher in Gibbs, Idaho. He attended Winton Elementary and Coeur d'Alene Junior and Senior High School.

Jim joined the Navy in September 1947 shortly before his 17th birthday. He was in the Seabees, stationed in the Philippines. Later he served on the USS Skagit during the Korean Conflict until his discharge in September 1951.

In 1952, Jim started working for Lawrence Pilkington and E.N. Surplus at Motor Electric in Coeur d'Alene. Later he became the sole proprietor until his retirement. After he turned the business over to his son, Don, Jim continued to spend a great deal of time at Motor Electric.

Jim and Ermajean McCaw were married Dec. 20, 1952. They made their home in Coeur d'Alene and Dalton Gardens until they moved to Post Falls on the Spokane River in 1968. They lived on the river until Jim's death.

Jim enjoyed camping, boating, taking cruises and visiting the Oregon Coast. He loved the water, spending most of his time on the river and the family cabin that he built on Coeur d'Alene Lake. He was a long-term member of the Post Falls Lions Club, and served as President.

Jim's greatest joy was spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Fisher; brothers Kenneth, Pershing, Ed, Tom, and Raymond; sisters Julia Wicks, Willa and Delores Fisher; and daughter-in-law Kathy Fisher. Jim is survived by his wife, Erma, of 61 years; son Don (Penny) Fisher and daughter Lisa (Dave) Bilich; granddaughters Katie (Brad) and Kellie (James); grandson Erick; great-grandson Tyson; niece Patti (Warren) Childs; nephew Bill (Karen) Fisher and Thomas (Kellie) Fisher; niece Charlene Wicks; nephew Ron Fisher; sisters-in-law June (Ed) Fisher and Vivian (Pershing) Fisher. Jim is also survived by a large extended family that embraced him as their own.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of North Idaho for their loving care and support.

The memorial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, at English Funeral Home, Post Falls. The family suggests memorials in Jim's name to Hospice of North Idaho. Please sign Jim's guest registry and view his online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
