ARFEE: Waiting for discipline
Your editorial of Sept. 7, “Arfee, citizens left in the dark,” covered everything I was going to say in my letter, so there’s no reason to reiterate.
The investigation, as you say, is complete, but the findings are not the justice sought by the public in the matter of the shooting of Arfee. We — the taxpayers (the employers) — need to know what disciplinary actions are being taken against not only Officer Kelley, but also against his cohorts, if not in the crime itself, then in what appears to be an attempted cover-up afterward.
In your series of articles published Sept. 6, “Arfee: case closed?” and “Unanswered questions,” you also named SGT Jeff Walther, Officer Jeff Weidebush and three to five “other officers.” We also need to know what disciplinary actions are being taken for their actions (or inactions) in this matter.
Now that the investigation is complete (after two long months), as the employers of our civil servants, we demand that justice be served swiftly and that we be made aware of the outcome.
I believe from the information which has been released about Dave Patterson, the owner of Java, and his part in this matter will be sufficient for the public to determine if they wish to continue to patronize his business.
