Post Falls to hold 9/11 events
POST FALLS - A 9/11 remembrance ceremony at City Hall and a fundraiser benefiting local emergency responders and their families in need will be held in Post Falls on Thursday.
The 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance ceremony will be held from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. at the outdoor City Hall plaza, 408 N. Spokane St.
"The 9/11 events have been an opportunity for the community to come together to remember that tragic day in our history and to honor the victims and the first responders who bravely gave their lives," said Kit Hoffer, city spokeswoman.
"It also reminds us of the bravery of those who responded and the overwhelming spirit of unity and compassion that was demonstrated in every city in this nation in the days following the attack."
Participating agencies include the city of Post Falls, Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, American Legion Post 143 and the Patriot Guard Riders.
Speakers will by Mayor Ron Jacobson, KCFR Capt. Dan Ryan, Post Falls Police Capt. Pat Knight, American Legion Commander Steve Hansen and Chaplain Mark McWhorter.
The ceremony will also include posting of the colors, a moment of silence, prayer, lowering of the flag, a proclamation given by Jacobson and laying of a wreath.
The Sept. 11 attacks included four terrorist attacks launched by al-Qaida upon the United States in New York City and Washington, D.C., on Sept. 11, 2001. The attacks killed nearly 3,000 people.
The sixth annual Capone's Guns and Hoses fundraiser benefiting the nonprofit Kootenai County Police and Fire Memorial Foundation will be held at the Post Falls Capone's Pub and Grill, 315 Ross Point Road, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Barbecue food and drink specials will be served in the restaurant's parking lot. There will also be silent and live auctions. All of the proceeds from the event will go to the foundation.
The foundation was founded in 2005 after Coeur d'Alene Police Officer Mike Kralicek was shot in the line of duty in 2004. Kralicek survived and is now a motivational speaker.
The foundation has awarded 13 grants totaling more than $14,000.
