Cards split at CSI volleyball tourney

TWIN FALLS - North Idaho College swept Northwest College of Powell, Wyo. after losing to Casper College in four games on Friday, in the College of Southern Idaho tournament.

The Cardinals (2-7) beat the Trappers 25-23, 25-10, 25-21 as Dzeni Hadzisehovic had 13 kills.

"In the Northwestern match we showed up and played well," NIC first-year coach Kelsey Stanley said. "The girls came out with tons of energy and were a lot more aggressive than the first match."

Maddi Seidl had 30 assists, Kennedy Chadwick 19 digs, Matilda Altin three blocks and Brittany Aldridge three aces.

NIC lost to Casper, 24-26, 25-22, 23-25, 19-25.

Aldridge had 13 kills, Seidl had 50 assists, Chadwick 29 digs.

The Cardinals play at 9 a.m. today against Central Arizona College and at 1 p.m. against Hutchinson College of Hutchinson, Kan.

OREGON CITY, Ore. - Alex Rankin scored a goal past a wall of bodies off a corner kick by Jaimee Hulst in the 17th minute Friday, kickstarting North Idaho College to a 2-0 win over Clackamas Community College.

Hulst's kick bended toward the near post toward Rankin.

"It was a good win as this was our first travel experience for this year's team," Dan Hogan said. "We were off our game a little bit early, but shook off the travel legs and started connecting more passes and eventually saw some good chances on goal."

Katelyn Sly scored the second goal in the 85th minute for the Cardinals (2-0-1, 1-0-1 NWAC), tapping the ball past goalkeeper Lexi Pittman of Clackamas (0-4-1, 0-2-1) for the 2-0 lead.

NIC plays Pierce College today at noon in Puyallup, Wash.

First half - 1, NIC, Alex Rankin (Jaimee Hulst), 16:00. Second half - 2, NIC, Katelyn Sly (Natalie Middleton), 84:00.
