Donald H. Daugherty, 88

Donald H. Daugherty, 88, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Sept. 2, 2014, while surrounded by his family and his soulmate, Elmarie Waterhouse.

Donald was born on Feb. 3, 1926, in Alliance, Neb., to James Hugh Daugherty and Clara Evelyn Garrett. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945. Soon after, he was drafted into the Army where he spent time in Austria, Germany, and Italy. In his spare time, Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

Donald was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvyn Daugherty, Kenneth Daugherty and Richard Daugherty; and sisters Eileen Woodworth and Virginia Green.

Donald is survived by his three children, Terri Bristow (Scott) of Hayden, Sherri Gunderson (Gary) of Post Falls and Patrick Daugherty; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brothers Jim Daugherty of Cataldo, Idaho, and Melwyn Daugherty of Carson City, Nev.; sister Maxine Rice of Sioux City, Iowa; and lastly, by Elmarie Waterhouse, his loving soulmate who changed his life for the better in many ways.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the many employees of the Hospice House for their kindness and caring attentiveness during this difficult time.

A celebration of Donald's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at the Post Falls Senior Center. We welcome anyone who knew Don to join us at this time.
