Chris Korbel, 72

Chris Korbel, 72, passed away at Hospice House in Coeur d'Alene, on Aug. 29, 2014.

Chris was born on May 27, 1942, in San Francisco, Calif., to Raymond Korbel and Lucille Donaldson Korbel. She was raised in San Francisco and graduated from George Washington High School.

In 1960 Chris married Jerry Porter in San Francisco; they later divorced. Chris and Jerry had three children together - Danielle, Michelle, and Adam.

In 1976 Chris graduated with a BA in Elementary Education from Mills College in Oakland, Calif. Later that year she moved to Coeur d'Alene, and started teaching in Rose Lake, Idaho.

In the early 1990s, Chris earned her master's degree from the University of Idaho in Special Education. She was a special education teacher at Ponderosa Elementary, and later moved to Post Falls Junior High where she worked until her retirement in 2008.

Chris enjoyed swimming with the "Posse" at the McGrane Center, and she loved her dogs.

Chris is preceded in death by her brother, Kenny Korbel, in 1964. She is survived by her children Danielle (Kirk Scott) of Coeur d'Alene, Michelle Porter of Vancouver, Wash., and Adam Porter (Kellee) of Kirkland, Wash; five grandchildren: Shaun Scott (Janelle), Katie Lucero (Mitch), Christopher Scott, Michael Porter, and Kimberlee Porter; three great-grandchildren: Annalise Scott, Mallory Lucero, and Kylee Scott; and sister Dee Korbel of El Sobrante, Calif.
