Talley, Ulen spark Cardinal men; Pagano's hat trick lifts women

COEUR d'ALENE - Adam Talley and Brady Ulen each scored twice as the North Idaho College men's soccer team blanked Tacoma Community College 4-0 on Tuesday in nonconference play at Eisenwinter Field.

"Finishing was much better today - spectacular finishes," NIC coach Ken Thompson said.

Talley's first goal was a left-footed drive that curled around the keeper into the upper left corner in the 11th minute. Early in the second half, Ulen took a long throw-in from David Geske and volleyed a shot from 16 yards into the upper right corner.

"All the goals, I don't think the keeper had a chance," Thompson said. "No cupcakes - all animal crackers today."

NIC (2-0-0) travels to Puyallup on Saturday to play Pierce Community College.

COEUR d'ALENE - Meghan Pagano, a sophomore forward from Sandpoint High, scored a hat trick as the Cardinals shut out the Titans in nonconference play at Eisenwinter Field.

Haley White, a freshman forward from La Grande, Ore., had a goal and three assists for NIC (1-0-1). Madi Williams and Cassy Van Der Mey teamed for the shutout in goal.

"It was good to score goals in this game after the frustration of shooting 18 times on Saturday without seeing the ball stretch the back of the net," NIC coach Dan Hogan said.

Tacoma is 1-3-0.

NIC plays at Clackamas Community College in Salem, Ore., on Friday.
