AIRPORT: Got some explaining to do

| October 31, 2014 10:12 PM

Several recent articles have showcased how valuable the Cd’A Airport is to the county, bringing millions of dollars in revenue into the county. Then we hear that KMPO “was blindsided” by the planned airport expansion and the City of Hayden wants to extend Ramsey Road to the north; both projects supported by Commissioner Green. And now we hear that Greg Delavan is suddenly incompetent and fired, but not for cause!

Given Mr. Delavan’s long and very successful tenure, the fact that two of our esteemed commissioners are lame ducks (and one of them doesn’t seem to see or feel the need for “a new direction - Nelson), we will have two newly elected commissioners installed in approximately eight weeks, and our lone carry-over commissioner goes on vacation immediately after firing Mr. Delavan, it begs the question of the events leading up to this decision and especially the need for such speed in filling the now empty position. At this point, it has been announced that in the interim, the airport will be managed (very capably) by Assistant Manager Phil Cummings. Mr. Cummings has been the #2 man for many years and will surely be able to manage the facility for the next two or three months while we wait for our newly elected commissioners to take office. Additionally, I call on Commissioner Green to openly and completely detail what the “new direction” is and why Mr. Delavan is deemed an impediment to that change? Commissioner?
