RECALL: Support for Chris Shelton

I’ve mailed my ballot for the upcoming Mica Kidd Island Fire District election. Wording of the recall petition against Commissioner Chris Shelton is misleading and inaccurate, to say the least. Please educate yourselves before voting on this petition.

I’ve been an EMT volunteer and involved with department finances since 1995. I currently serve as volunteer Treasurer, providing independent oversight of department finances. I am a resident of the district and pay district taxes.

This recall petition was spearheaded by a small and vocal minority spreading a bitter and libelous misinformation campaign about a proposed fee schedule. A ‘preliminary draft’ of this schedule was taken as fact, (totally out of context) and is basis for the recall. This minority group is attempting to destroy the bonds of trust and respect built up by our loyal volunteers. I’ve personally spoken with several district residents who wish to retract their signatures on the recall petition because of false information provided to them by this vocal minority.

It’s a fact that the final fee schedule was approved at a public meeting without opposition.

It’s a fact that the prosecutor’s office has determined that no ‘illegal’ executive session was held.

Please do not let this vocal minority hijack your volunteer fire department. Stop the bullies. The current Board of Commissioners and Fire Chief are the best I’ve had the pleasure of working with in my 20 years with the Department.

I urge you to Vote AGAINST recalling Chris Shelton as MKI Fire Commissioner!
