AIRPORT: Reason to support 2 men

| October 30, 2014 9:00 PM

I was surprised to learn that Pappy Boyington Field’s airport manager Greg Delavan was recently removed from that position for no stated reason. I know Greg personally and he is a strong advocate for the airport and a friend to aviation. He has been key to the airport’s growth and the resulting expansion of the types of jobs that would not otherwise be available to Coeur d’Alene residents.

In researching the matter I was disappointed to learn that Greg’s advocacy for the airport may be the reason that got him fired. Only in government can you get in trouble for doing your job well. It seems that our county commissioners do not have the same level of enthusiasm for aviation that Greg and I share, nor do they understand the economic benefits of a good community airport.

Fortunately there is a solution to the situation. Two of the three county commissioners are at the end of their tenure and there are four candidates on the ballot to replace them. I know that two of the candidates are strong supporters of aviation in North Idaho. They know how important the Cd’A airport is to the local economy and how important it is to provide local transportation access to our community’s businesses.

While I don’t normally endorse political candidates, my passion for aviation requires I make an exception.

This November 4th please vote for David Stewart and Marc Eberlein for county commissioner.
