COLUMN: It takes a human touch
Oct. 15 — To William Rutherford — Coeur d’Alene Press. I do have a response to your column in The Press, on the above date. Being in my late 80s, I know the importance of staying active and being with others, whether human or animal.
Recently, I stopped at Rustler’s Roost for a quick cup of soup before going on to Coeur d’Alene Homes. As my friend Ginny and I were sitting there, a group of wheelchair bound guests were leaving one at a time. They had help in making their way to a waiting van from Life Care Center. What a great change for them in a different atmosphere.
My next stop was Coeur d’Alene Homes for their Birthday Bash. My church was providing the cupcakes and ice cream. When I walked in, music was playing, the old-fashioned kind, familiar to all. Some of the employees and volunteers were dancing with the residents. What a festive atmosphere for a party.
My point in writing this is stressing, as in your column, humans and animals need the contacts and encouragement to keep moving.
