Info sought about moose poached near Wallace

COEUR d'ALENE - The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking information regarding the poaching of a cow moose outside Wallace.

The moose was found on the Burke Creek Canyon Road going toward Glidden Lake.

The carcass was found about 20 yards above the road, and the poachers constructed a wall of branches to hide their activities from the road, said Phil Cooper, a spokesman for Fish and Game.

The moose was most likely killed sometime between Oct. 13 and Oct. 15, Cooper said.

The incident happened in Unit 4, which has no open season for cow moose.

One front shoulder of the moose was taken, but the rest of the carcass was left to waste, Cooper said.

Evidence was gathered from the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
