VANDALS: Name now in jeopardy
For all of you alumni, students, and fans of the University of Idaho athletic programs, I have some terrible news.
It has come down from ON HIGH that, due to social and political incorrectness, the U of I can no longer be known as the Vandals.
The guru of Monday Night Football, Mr. Phillip Simms, has decreed that, since our logo and fight song are a denigration of an ancient and honorable people, it is now inappropriate that our beloved school retain its current athletic name.
After all, the Vandals, an early historical horde of marauders who swept through Europe and, indeed, sacked Rome, have been misappropriately belittled by the University of Idaho.
Henceforth, we must accept as our logo the venerable tulip, and our fight song must hereafter be “Tiptoe Through the Tulips,” made famous in the 1960s by the internationally renowned songster, Tiny Tim.
