HORSE: It's not beaten quite yet
I read with amazement Chief White’s comment, “are you still beating that horse” and it demonstrated to me how totally out of touch he and his department are. “Yes Chief White, we are and will continue to beat this horse.”
Officer Kelley endangered his partner, did not follow protocol and his sergeant abetted in the blatant cover up — oh, it was a vicious pit bull! I am a huge supporter of our PD, but they need to realize that they are not above us, they are one of us.
In a recent “my turn” column, William Yarwood completely misses the point. Yarwood looking back at his glory days from years past as a reserve deputy, advocates forgiveness. If it was just a dumb mistake by Kelley (sorry he doesn’t deserve the officer part) and the boys in blue stood up and said “we messed up” I can see the public perhaps forgiving. BUT they not only attempted to cover it up but exacerbated things by not having the basic human consideration for Arfee’s owner, who had to deal with a callous note left on his van. Equally culpable is the landlord of Java who wanted to tow the poor guy’s van, making him sit in the blood of his beloved pet.
No, a few bucks an hour deduction is not justice. Shame on you Kelley and shame on you Chief White for having so little respect for the people you are supposed to serve. Your department has been dragged in the mud and you will need more than a garden hose to wash it off. Kelley has ZERO credibility to be a cop in Coeur d’Alene. How dare you insult our intelligence.
