STORY: Color isn't the issue

| October 17, 2014 9:00 PM

Regarding the article in your Oct. 14 issue, “Idaho: A lack of diversity?”

There seems to be, in some circles, a concern that there are too many “white” people in Idaho. I don’t understand the point here. Does it attempt to imply that Idaho is not friendly to, or does not welcome black people? What is the point? In some parts of the country the black population approaches 50 percent (Washington, D.C.). Should we be concerned that these areas have too many blacks? That would be racism. What about too many white people — wouldn’t that also be racism? Why must there be a certain percentage of all races in every facet of life? Why not let the chips fall as they may?

A few years ago, a popular term used by the government was “racial balance” in order to justify more racial minorities in a given endeavor. But it only went one way. When the scales tipped the other way, the balance racial justification disappeared.
