PAYOUT: Who's held responsible?
I’m writing regarding the article “Payout for wrongful termination lawsuit leads to change.” Unfortunately, it appears that the only change the payout of $3.2 million tax was from the city being self-insured to the ICRMP program. Why wasn’t someone held accountable? I’m sure the city has a termination policy!
Surely a termination policy would require a thorough investigation of the alleged facts reviewed by the Chief of Police, an independent review by the City Attorney and finally a review or hearing before the City Council before anyone is terminated.
In this case one or more supervisors involved in the investigation leading to Dixon’s termination should have been fired immediately upon the court’s finding of unlawful termination. Somebody either lied or jumped to a conclusion without checking his or her facts. Either way they shouldn’t be receiving a city paycheck.
