Coeur d'Alene volleyball standout Ramseyer verbally commits to Idaho

COEUR d'ALENE - When she weighed the pros and cons of the three schools that had offered her college scholarships, Coeur d'Alene High junior Megan Ramseyer kept coming back to one school above the others.

So Sunday night, Ramseyer called Idaho volleyball coach Debbie Buchanan, the former St. Maries High standout, and verbally committed to accept a full ride to play for the Vandals, beginning in fall 2016.

"I just felt like everything there fit me best," said Ramseyer, a 5-11 setter/outside hitter for the Vikings (15-3). "I really like all the girls and coaches, and I like the campus and the college-town feel. It's close enough, but far enough."

Ramseyer, who also had offers from Gonzaga and Montana, has been primarily a setter most of her volleyball career, but has split time between setter and hitter at Coeur d'Alene High. The Vandals are interested in her solely as a setter, she said.

Ramseyer can't sign her official letter of intent until next fall. A starter at Coeur d'Alene since her freshman year, she said she wanted to commit early in part to get the decision out of the way; also, colleges need to know who's coming or not coming, so they can plan accordingly.

"It was a big relief," Ramseyer said of her verbal commitment.
