BRAVO: Playhouse hit 'Les Miserables'

| October 3, 2014 9:00 PM

More than 25 years ago I saw the musical play “Les Miserables” in Los Angeles, one of the original casts from Europe. I then became addicted to the play and have seen at least 15 different versions.

George Green, director of the production here in Coeur d’Alene, to me has put on as spectacular a performance as the one in L.A.

J.R. Haynie captured the role of Jean Valjean in such a passionate way that took my breath away, along with his singing voice. Daniel Bell, who played Javert, encased the many personalities and torments of his character between the law, righteousness and God.

Aaron Baldwin brings a new empathy and compassion to the role of Marius. With his stage presence and beautiful singing voice, he indeed had me spellbound. He is going places!

Briane Green, who took on her “dream role,” was spectacular as Fantine. Her voice and acting ability were perfection and made me believe she was Fantine.

Allyson Taylor, who played Little Cosette, brought me to tears with her angelic voice. Cailin Duffey played an older Cosette. Her voice and acting were spiritually uplifting.

Hats off to Kelly Hauenstein and Whitney Huskey — you both nailed it on Masters of the House and added humor to a very serious, dramatic story. Brendan Brady, who was one of the leaders of the Revolution, personality, singing and acting — lit up the stage.

All singers, actors in the ensemble and the orchestra, Bravo! I hope to see you next year.
