MARRIAGE: God can sort it out
I found the article ‘University of Idaho Panel Discusses Same-Sex Marriage’ by Keith Cousins rather intriguing. This discussion was broadcast from Boise to the UI Center in Coeur d’Alene on Constitution Day. The panel was made up of three attorneys who are at the center of Idaho’s same-sex marriage debate. Shaakirrah Sanders, moderator for the discussion, referred to the case as being challenging because the court had to deal with both the state statute and a voter-approved change to the Idaho State’s Constitution that bans same-sex marriage nine years ago.
Tom Perry, legal counsel for Governor Otter, told the audience to research various court rulings in making a very difficult decision.
Deborah Ferguson, attorney for the plaintiff said, “Idaho has the most draconian of the same-sex bans because the door is always locked and dead-bolted since it prohibits same-sex activities as well.”
The attorneys for both the plaintiff and the defense agree this case will be settled in the Supreme Court.
We should all be concerned that the 9th District Court and the Supreme Court, made up of small numbers of judges, can overrule the Legislature (the elected body of the citizens) and the whole of the people who voted unanimously to place the ban in the Idaho Constitution. Does the VOICE of the people count for anything?
The argument as to whether we are a Democracy (the voice of the majority) or a Republic (the rule of law) is ongoing. In this case it appears that both the voice of the people and the rule of law are being ignored.
In our early history the courts got involved when a law was broken (a sin committed). Now our liberal, progressive thinkers use the courts to defend the sin. Liberals make same-sex marriage a political issue. The courts deal with legal interpretations of the Constitution.
Perhaps it’s time we get back to the intent of the Creator who created male and female and designed a beautiful plan for sexual intimacy to be expressed in the context of marriage between one man and one woman. This was also the intent of the Founding Fathers who viewed sexual sin as a moral issue instead of a legal or political issue. Do progressives really think they are improving on God’s plan?
I challenge you to thoroughly examine God’s principles! By putting His principles into practice you can save yourself, your family, and society a lot of heartache and a lot of expense.
