AIRPORT: Awaiting actual answers

| November 28, 2014 8:00 PM

Thank you to Larry Spencer for his informative “My Turn” piece entitled “Does Hayden want to close the airport.” If you didn’t notice it, that is probably because it was buried in the bowels of the paper with “Legals” and a really riveting article entitled “Volunteers sought for AARP Tax Help.”

My question, which I posed a couple of weeks ago, is why isn’t the Coeur d’Alene Press doing anything to really report on the issues at stake here. Ninety percent of the information that has appeared in The Press has been from letters to the editor and My Turn articles. Where are the front-page articles quoting “anonymous sources in the Hayden mayor’s office” telling us what is really going on here. The Press has done a good job of promoting Nick Smoot and other people in the area who are trying to get business and entrepreneurship flourishing in North Idaho. Yet, when the city of Hayden and commissioner Dan Green are about to hobble an important asset, a local airport that can grow and service serious business needs, there is silence.

Please step up to the plate and do some serious reporting. From what I am able to gather (without better reporting) the city of Hayden is pursuing short-term goals (and profit) without concern for the long-term effects. This is an issue that affects Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls, not just Hayden.
