MICA: What grange is, and isn't

| November 14, 2014 8:00 PM

In reference to the Mica Kidd Island Fire Protection District Commissioner recall, to set the record straight, the Mica Flats Grange “leadership” did not at anytime, endorse or condemn the recall effort. The Mica Flats Grange is a fraternal family organization that prides itself on being political without being partisan. Our only involvement, in the last several months, was to issue a position letter on May 7 to each of the MKIFPD commissioners regarding opposition to the original proposed fee schedule. To request a copy of this letter, email [email protected].

All grange members are bound by fraternity but grange also assures individuality. The 179 Mica Flats Grange members are individuals with various backgrounds, ages, political views and numerous opinions. There is a difference between acting as an individual and acting on behalf of the grange. I insist regarding grange matters, no matter how passionate, that debate remain on the issue and I would never allow debate to become personal.

The Mica Flats Grange is a transparent, community service-based civic organization and has been a servant of Mica Flats/Kidd Island since 1947. The Grange membership supports the MKIFPD volunteers and would do anything to support their fire fighting and EMT efforts. The grange membership has proved that many times over the years. We are proud of them. We are proud of the cooperative relationship we have with them and the other civic organizations in our community. I encourage you to attend any grange event or meeting to see for yourself.
