Roy L. Farrelly, 103

| November 12, 2014 8:00 PM

Roy L. Farrelly passed away peacefully on Nov. 6, 2014, surrounded by family.

Roy was born on Nov. 1, 1911, to John and Mary Farrelly in Latah, Wash., the youngest of five children. On June 23, 1934, he married Bertha Larson. They were blessed with two daughters, Carol and Betty.

Roy farmed in Latah until 1949, when he went to work for the Latah Grain Growers. He then moved his family to Almira, Wash. where he worked for Almira Farmers Warehouse, retiring in 1976.

Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and Bertha enjoyed fishing together, and they always had a beautiful garden.

After retirement Roy spent much of his time working with wood and creating many unique gifts for his family and friends. After Bertha's passing in 1982, Roy married Dorothea "Midge" Hyde.

After his marriage to Midge, they moved to Spokane and lived at Holman Gardens. Roy lived independently until August 2014 when he moved from Holman Gardens to Wellspring Meadows Assisted Living in Hayden Lake to be closer to his family.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife Bertha, his daughter Carol Moore, his second wife Midge, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his daughter, Betty Kerr (Delbert), son-in-law Robert Moore (Ruby), six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy was a member of Spokane Valley Baptist Church, a long term member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star in Almira.

Roy lived a long and fulfilling life, and was known as a "True Gentleman." He will be missed by all who were close to him. The family would like to thank the staff at Holman Gardens (especially Linda Hubble who was like a daughter to Roy), and the Wellspring Meadows staff for their excellent care.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Spokane Valley Baptist Church, 1222 S. McDonald Road, in the Spokane Valley. Interment at Pines Cemetery to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Roy Farrelly to Holman Gardens Retirement Home, 12912 E. 12th Ave., Spokane, Wash., 99216.

Thornhill Valley Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
