TURNOUT: What it really means

| November 9, 2014 8:00 PM

Recently there has been considerable discussion about low voter turnout. Actually, there is a very simple cause: Voters have lost confidence in their government. No matter who they elect the end result is the same: Bigger and more controlling government.

Talking to one friend about the need to vote in the primary election, his response was that he always voted in the “big election,” the general election. Actually, since this is a very heavily Republican state, most important decisions are actually decided in the primary, so if you do not vote in the primary you really have no vote.

To begin with, no Christian, or person of good moral character, could ever vote for a Democrat. Although they have cleaned up the language the Democrats still believe in abortion (reproductive decisions) and support gay marriage (sexual orientation, gender/expression). Since very few Idahoans support either of these views you place yourselves beyond the voters when you support these measures.

Year after year Idahoans have voted for Republicans only to see increases in the annual budgets and spending increases. Each year it gets harder to do business in Idaho even with Republicans in most offices.

This is a perfect time to turn this around: We have the votes. We can make it easier to do business and to stand for liberty. We can even stand against the programs of the Federal Government if we choose to do so. Doing so and being successful will see an immediate increase in voting numbers. Comments: [email protected]
