ELWAY: Cheering for him no more

I was a fan of John Elway once, but not anymore. At last year’s Super Bowl he said he was a Republican because he didn’t believe in a social safety net. Yet, he has received taxpayer funds in school and to help build Denver’s football stadium. It’s all right for him and his rich friends to get taxpayer help, but it’s not for the poor and disabled. What a hypocrite. Is this what being a Republican has become?

From Ted Cruz shutting down the government, to the Koch brothers buying elections, to Butch Otter defunding education and Fox News slanting the truth, most of us will never prosper and get out of poverty.

These hypocritical leaders should be careful. The Bible says that we should help our fellow man and woman, not hurt or oppress them. And if they don’t change their ways, they might not walk through those gates they hope to.
