Sherry L. Vanderhoof

| November 1, 2014 9:00 PM

Sherry L. Vanderhoof was born in Wallace, Idaho, on Sept. 14, 1948. Sherry and her family moved around and settled down in San Pedro, Calif. There, she finished school and married her high school sweetheart, Steve.

Sherry and her husband Steve moved to Germany in 1968 when he was deployed with the Army. This time abroad led to her career in the tour business where she traveled around many parts of the world.

In 1985, Sherry and her daughters moved back to Idaho and put down roots in Post Falls where she reconnected with her family in both Alaska and the Silver Valley.

Sherry enjoyed camping with family and friends, as well as directing and coordinating tours. Some of her fondest memories were visiting with her in-laws, Gord and Jane, drinking coffee while overlooking Catalina Island. While in San Pedro, Sherry developed a love for the ocean and there was always a fond place in her heart for lighthouses and seashells.

Sherry enjoyed scrapbooking and researching her family history with her cousins, Debbie and Pat. She also enjoyed working in her flower beds at her home in Post Falls. She loved to cook and taught both her daughters many of her tricks to the perfect meal or dish. Their time in the kitchen led to many session where the soup really was good for the soul. They, in turn, are passing this passion on to their own children.

Mom's home was always open to friends and family. A surprise homecoming of one of her daughters with 12 classmates in tow was greeted with breakfast and smiles.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence; mother Betty; sister Kathy; her favorite uncle Ray and aunt Jeanie; and two grandsons, Rylan and Caden.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kairie and Michelle; four grandchildren: Nickalos, Morganne, Carter and Emerie; and two great-grandchildren, Karson and Jace.

We welcome you to join us to celebrate the life of Sherry at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, at the community center in the Greens Ferry Landing subdivision located at 2544 Ferry Landing in Post Falls.

In lieu of sending flowers, a GoFundme account (gofundme.com/gjrg7s) has been set up to help fund the continued support and operation of the Hospice House of North Idaho. A permanent memorial plaque in remembrance of Sherry will be commissioned in her name.
