ELECTION: Call to all citizens
I have to disagree with my friend Alan Wolfe’s letter regarding the primary election. He said he wouldn’t cave to becoming a member of a political party. I did (call me a short term RINO). He thinks we shouldn’t have to declare a political party; I felt I had to. Looking back, I can’t decide if the Republican Party got what it wanted or what it deserved.
I won’t bother with education or job rankings, those are well-known, but I am amused at one stat in particular. Here, in the most conservative state, the reddest of red, the Family Values state, we rank, per capita, the third highest state with people married three times or more. Hypocrisy is indeed alive and well in Idaho.
To the 78 percent of people who didn’t vote, thanks for nothing. Next time you are in a conversation about anything concerning government, make sure you start your remarks with “I didn’t vote,” so we’ll know to disregard whatever you say. Don’t miss it in November.
To all the people who railed against McEuen and especially those who tried to use it as a means to take over a city; when you take your children and grandchildren there (and you will), and you see the delight on their faces, I want you to look them right in the eye and say, “You know, if I had it my way none of this would be here.”
Car d’Lane, Ironman, Fourth of July, Arts Weekend, the Diamond Cup and so much more lie before us. Let’s stop acting like we just stepped off the set of FOX News and be the amazing community we should be. Over history, Coeur d’Alene and Kootenai County have been known for a lot of things. Political extremism should not be one of them.
Enjoy your summer and be a citizen, not just a resident.
