Roy Edward Boyer, Jr., 84
Roy Edward Boyer, Jr. February 22, 1930 – May 13, 2014
Roy was born on February 22, 1930, in the old Fort Sherman “Powder House” in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. While spending his youth at the Fort Grounds, Roy attended school at Sherman Elementary, and attended services in the little red Fort Sherman Chapel. Later, he moved with his family to Post Falls where he graduated from high school in 1947.
Roy spent a good portion of his early adulthood on Lake Coeur d’Alene working on the tugboats that brought logs down from St. Maries to local sawmills. He eventually earned his way to Captain for Potlatch Forests. Roy won numerous log birling competitions at northwest logging festivals, and was once featured on the nationally televised program “You Asked For It” in the early 1960’s.
In the 70’s, Roy switched to carpentry and worked his way to site supervisor overseeing the construction of apartment complexes, hotels, and Perkins restaurants.
It was during this time that Roy discovered an interest in golf, which led him into becoming a board member at the Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Course, and eventually becoming chairman. He played in several Pro/Am tournaments, but his greater joy was the weekly “pot” games he played with his regular group of friends.
After retiring from the construction business, Roy's love of the lake led him to many leisurely hours of fishing on Hayden and Coeur d’Alene lakes.
