WOLFE: Councilman excluded himself
I appreciated Post Falls Councilman Alan Wolfe’s letter of being excluded, but he actually excluded himself. I disagree with him for not voting because he didn’t want to be a (heaven forbid) Republican-for-a-day. Being adaptable and not so hung-up on party labels is essential if we want participatory government. The GOP’s’ head muckety-mucks are whining because candidates and their voters aren’t being true to some crack-pot (or is it KCRCC-pot?) laundry list of non-negotiable platform planks that have less to do with everyday governing than it does fantasy.
We desperately need people like Mr. Wolfe’s common sense, and voters merely conceding this election to be decided by outliers by not choosing to participate in the GOP general election this month is only hurting Idaho. November’s election will be just a formality.
What? You think one party rule is new? The party of Lincoln couldn’t win state races in the American South until Jimmy Carter was president, and it seems Obama is having a similar effect on Idaho being solid red. Was the American South more liberal then under only Democrats than it is now? Not a chance. So common sense now dictates that if you want your vote to matter in Idaho, we had all better register republican if we want participatory government.
To not join in is to leave elections to the fantasy-filled-fifth (20 percent) of the electorate and their goofy exclusive wish list of non-negotiables.
