PRIMARY: Shut out by the GOP

| May 18, 2014 9:00 PM

I take exception to your editorial Wednesday chastising those of us who are registered voters but shut out from the upcoming primary. I would love to vote in this primary, but since I refuse to join a political party I don’t have the opportunity to cast my ballot. I realize I could vote for a Democrat but the people I support in this election happen to be Republicans. It’s not my fault, or the fault of other independent thinkers and voters in our county, that the Republican Party has shut us out.

If you want to blame someone for low voter turnout, please don’t point at the independent voter but direct your criticism at the Republicans. While I am a conservative by nature and agree with many Republican viewpoints, this primary issue is one area where I firmly disagree so I choose not to join a party that locks out people who don’t happen to share all of their beliefs. I also refuse to play the game of “Republican-for-a-day” just to cast my ballot. I guess it’s their party and I, like many, are simply not invited.
