CHARTER: Superb teachers overlooked

| May 9, 2014 9:00 PM

Teachers are important; that’s why we have Teacher Appreciation Week. Unfortunately, some teachers are overlooked. The Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy — of which I am a proud student — was utterly overlooked in the page about teacher appreciation; of the page filled with pictures, there wasn’t one containing a teacher from Charter. Considering that it is the highest ranking school in Idaho and the 47th highest in the nation, it is disheartening to see not a word about it.

The teachers there sacrifice so much for the students. One teacher moved from Arizona and another came all the way from the East Coast; teachers often stay until late into the night and then go home and spend more time grading. These teachers never slack; they never lose sight of their goals.

The band teacher is energetic and teaches some of the best bands in the area; the civics teacher is the most patriotic woman I have ever met, every student loves her class; the geometry teacher makes sure absolutely every student understands; the Latin teacher left his old life to teach here. They truly love what they do.

These are the individuals who deserve the highest appreciation, but get almost none. Next time Teacher Appreciation Week comes around, don’t forget to acknowledge the best this state has to offer.
